Artist’s Statement

My craft is stringed musical instruments, furniture, and sculpting wood, using traditional and modern methods of luthiery and woodworking. My work is known for the use of recycled, salvaged, and sustainably harvested woods, hand-carved figures and motifs, and humor.

My first works were Early American dulcimers with figured heads I carved using hand tools. After being profoundly influenced by a trip to England, I added medieval musical instruments and furniture, more carvings, and power carving tools to my repertoire. Recently, influenced by my desire to do still more woodcarving, sculpture using mini chain saws has become my focus.
