Artist’s Statement

My original designs blend the essences of basic Asian and contemporary aesthetics, with a fluency in the vocabulary of modernism. Most of my work consists of site- and/or client-specific commissions; I enjoy working cooperatively with clients in an iterative design process. I strive to create pieces that are at once relevant to the client and their lifestyle, include something of my own personal aesthetic, are functional, and display a high level of craftsmanship. I use both domestic and imported hardwoods, and choice softwoods, hand-selecting materials to ensure optimal color and grain matching whenever possible. I use only premium materials, and often incorporate graphic inlay details using abalone, mother-of-pearl and so-called ‘jewel’ woods such as burls and exotics.
